Bread Machine Buttermilk Whole Wheat Bread
Serves : 4-6Comments: This recipe comes from Beth Hensperger's excellent cookbook "The Bread Lover's Bread Machine Cookbook." It makes a one-pound loaf. The recipe can easily be doubled if you have a bread machine that makes two-pound loaves.
Ingredients:
- 3/4 cup buttermilk
- 1 tablespoon plus 1 1/2 teaspoons vegetable oil
- 1 generous tablespoon maple syrup
- 1 cup whole wheat flour
- 1 cup bread flour
- 2 1/2 teaspoons wheat gluten
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon SAF yeast OR 1 1/2 teaspoons bread machine yeast
Instructions:
Place all the ingredients in the pan according to the order in the manufacturer's instructions. Set crust on medium and program for the Basic cycle. Press start. (This recipe is not suitable for the Delay Timer.) When the baking cycle ends, immediately remove the bread from the pan and place it on a rack. Let cool a bit (if you can wait that long) before slicing.
